Museums and exhibitions

Hardly any other innovation has had such a profound impact on the course of history as Johannes Gutenberg's printing press. The new Gutenberg Museum in Mainz is dedicated to this turning point in human history – and at the same time tells the global story of the art of printing.

2,000 square meters of exhibition space. For an idea with global impact.

facts and fiction is developing the new exhibition concept for the Gutenberg Museum in the new building designed by h4a Gessert + Randecker. Covering around 2,000 square meters, an immersive, multimedia permanent exhibition is being created that brings Gutenberg's invention to life – in its technical, cultural, and social dimensions.

A museum for everyone – inclusive, interactive, international.

The aim is to create a barrier-free museum that appeals equally to a wide range of target groups: international visitors, trade visitors, school classes, and families. The exhibition combines storytelling as a method with multisensory approaches—with impressive objects, haptic, digital, and theatrical elements.

Design with depth. Communication with impact.

An immersive opening scene takes visitors on a journey from Gutenberg's time to the present day. Guests are introduced to Gutenberg's world in a visually stunning and emotionally touching way.

Making treasures visible. Understanding history.

One highlight of the exhibition is the newly designed treasure chamber, with the famous Gutenberg Bibles as its centerpiece. The originals enter into dialogue with digital forms of communication, creating an exhibition experience for everyone.

A holistic approach – beyond the exhibition.

facts and fiction is responsible not only for the concept and exhibition design, but also for the design of the foyer, shop, print shop, and museum educational offerings. In close collaboration with the architects, the museum, and the state capital of Mainz, a building is being created that takes a holistic approach to scenography, communication, and visitor experience – and sets new standards in museum design.
