Events

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs drew attention to the topic "Human Rights and Decent Work in Global Supply Chains" with a public online conference on 6 and 7 October. Within the framework of the German EU Council Presidency, Federal Minister of Labour Hubertus Heil discussed the issue with European guests from politics, civil society, social partners and business representatives.

The planning of the conference began in autumn 2019, which at that time included a physical presence event with 400 guests at the Hans-Otto-Theater in Potsdam. Due to the corona pandemic, the event was redesigned for the summer of 2020. The aim was to give arguments and reports from the various stakeholders and the audience a digital space as lively as at any live event.

On the first day of the event, representatives from various sectors of society were connected digitally and invited to exchange arguments with Hubertus Heil, Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs; Gerd Müller, Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development and Christine Lambrecht, Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection.

On the second day of the event, five interactive technical workshops were held, which offered participants the opportunity to pose their own questions and arguments in an in-depth exchange.

The live stream, which was available in German, English and French, was watched by more than 1,500 viewers worldwide on 6 October, and around 500 people took part in the workshops on 7 October.
