Within the framework of the German EU Council Presidency, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) is in charge of leading the European negotiations in the field of environmental protection. The BMU's aim is to combine the way out of the current crisis with climate protection and nature conservation.
"Europe thrives on personal exchange, which creates trust and understanding for each other", said Federal Minister Svenja Schulze in her statement to the informal meeting of EU Environment Ministers in Berlin on 30 September and 1 October.
To enable this personal exchange to take place in times of Corona with a total of 200 participants, the meeting was moved, at short notice, to the spacious Station Berlin. An evening reception in the German Museum of Technology and a dinner at the Tempodrom also gave the ministers the opportunity for informal exchange. facts and fiction met the requirements for hygiene and distance rules in all the locations, through appropriate furniture and a detailed hygiene concept and guidance system.
As it was not possible for all ministers to participate physically, some of the participants were connected digitally via a videoconferencing tool and were thus able to participate virtually in the meeting.
Beyond all these special challenges, facts and fiction was entrusted with the interior design. Under the leitmotifs of diversity, co-creation and sustainability, material collages made of off-cuts such as wood, cork, perforated boards and old shelving elements zoned the rooms and gave the spacious halls a visual clasp. The "national flowers" with all national flags of the invited EU member states and some other states represented a strong gesture of welcome and farewell.
