Although our life today is hardly imaginable without chemistry, something must obviously be wrong as the branch has quite a bad reputation. The VCI (German Association of the Chemical Industry) intends to do something to change this. The topical park ‘Human Being’ at the EXPO aims at showing a positive image of this industrial branch.

The title ‘You are chemistry – Life is chemistry‘ says it all, and any glorification or one-sided performance show is deliberately abstained from. In fact, the goal is to allow the EXPO visitors to gain access to the abstract world of chemistry in a sensual and emotional fashion.

For this end and over a period of four year, we make use of physics and develop the ChemiDrom by using a countless number of ideas and 30 tons of steel. In short, this ellipsoidal tube is nothing else but a trafficable film having a length of 250 m.

10,000 enthusiastic visitors per day – and a total of 1.2 million during the whole EXPO – travel in rotating computer-controlled gondolas to dive into the chemical processes in the human brain and to experience the achievements of chemistry as well as the difficulties related to them. In the course of the eight-minute trip, they marvel at historical achievements, innovations, and future scenarios shown by more than 50 films and scenic pictures with multi-media support and accompanied by odours, movement, and surround sound.
